A few years ago I had the privilege and honor of preaching the homily. I recited a poem about the lonely ones in care facilities hoping someone will visit. Many of you asked for a copy of that poem, so as the holidays approach and we visit the ones we love, here is that poem, especially for you…I hope it blesses you…
FIND THE TIME
by Deacon Bob Fishman
I hoped you would come by this week,
I know it’s a busy time for you.
With the kids and work and chores at home
there is always so much to do.
Things here in the room are going well
but, with the doctors, who really knows.
I sit watching Law & Order reruns
and yelling prices at silly game shows.
I know it’s hard to bring the kids,
they don’t like to see me this way.
But I would just enjoy their company
even if they don’t know what to say.
I was thinking back to long ago
when you were still so small.
Climbing trees and running wild,
you had no cares at all.
The scraped up knees, that dirty face
making shadows in the sun.
No matter how old you get
you’re still my little one.
I guess I’ll let you go for now.
Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.
Please pray for me and I’ll pray for you
and I hope you find the time…
To just say hello…
